Warez comes from the actual word softWARE(Z). How it became to define software piracy, is anybody's guess?
on Jun 16, 2004
It is more 1337 to use a 'Z'....so 'WareZ' was the 1337-spe4k way....

Hey...I get it now!! SoftWARE!!! In 10 years of computing experience, I never knew that until now...

It came about used as a slang by kiddies on the old BBS systems.

Early to mid 80's we had Hackers, Crackers and Phreakers. Software Piracy was an eventuality the very first time someone handed someone else a floppy with a program on it and said "Check this out". Pirate Sites popped up very fast and by 1988 you could get anything if you knew someone who knew someone, or you happened to be an SysOP.

Then the kiddies jumped in where they could and some put up BBS systems and started using the term Warez. It took as most slang does in clicks and became commonly used.

Guess you could blame FIDO and all of us Hub sites of the 80's...

hehe

Frontdoor was a God send and Bluewave opened the doors...

RBBS was the FORD, WildCAT, PCBoard and Maximus CBCS were the Luxury rides.
